The Whiskey Brothers.
Rob Mungle, Slade Ham, John Wessling, and Sam Demaris.
There's simply nothing to compare it to. In a comedy scene full of rehashed premises, tired punchlines, and a monotonous point of view, The Whiskey Brothers crash through the gate like a S.W.A.T. team, bringing fresh ideas and killer writing to an industry that is starving for it. A combined fifty years of stage time between the four of them, they developed in the same scene that spawned Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison, and the original Outlaw Comics, and that influence shows.
Nothing is safe, sacred, or untouched. Where other comedy ensembles would automatically pull the emergency brake, The Whiskey Brothers slam down on the accelerator. If a group of Southern comics drinking whiskey sounds like something that might have a "country" slant, you couldn't be more wrong. It's more of the "shot of Irish whiskey in the back of a rock club" sort of thing. It's the eighties outside CBGB. It's a been-there-done-that attitude. Sit back and shut up and enjoy it - these guys crush audiences.
And they're ripping through the 18-40 year old demographic with a sledgehammer.
It's dirty. The cuss, they drink, and they start where other podcasts draw the line… but it works. Every single time. They come at topics from four different angles, each one of them a headlining comedian with a unique point of view, and then they rip them to shreds.
Founded by The Reverend ROB MUNGLE, The Whiskey Brothers have evolved into something previously unheard of. It's not just a podcast; it's a live show as well. Mungle has performed literally everywhere, from sold out theaters to seedy strip clubs and everything in between. He has voiced characters in virtually every anime on the market, and takes the stage with an aggression that would scare you if it weren't so ridiculously funny.
SLADE HAM is a globetrotting international headliner that has taken the stage in 22 countries on four different continents. He was telling jokes in Germany two weeks after 9/11, he's hopped from base to base across Japan and Korea for the Air Force, and has been dropped off by Blackhawk helicopter to do spontaneous sets for soldiers in the Iraqi desert. Ham also directed in starred in the short film A Fist Full of Pills which was finally beaten by Kevin Pollack at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. He is also a regular on The Bob & Tom Show and was seen in ring at Wrestlemania XXV. That last part is a lie.
JOHN WESSLING is a Houston native freshly returned to Texan soil after an eight year stint in the City of Angels. He is one of only three comedians who has ever performed in all 50 states in 50 consecutive days. In 2003 John was a semi-finalist on Last Comic Standing's second season and then a stand-out performer in the New Faces showcase at the 2004 Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. Wessling performed in the Comedy Central Roast of Jeff Foxworthy, as "Johnny Foxworthy", Jeff's younger brother from prison, and in 2006 appeared in the first season of Comedy Central's Live at Gotham.
And then there's SAM DEMARIS, winner of Houston's Funniest Person in 2002, The Funniest Person in South Texas in 2011, and also the hard rocking, Motorhead loving, dreadlocked black guy. His brand of storytelling comes complete with a bottle of Jack Daniels and a battery pack that never runs out of energy.
It's fast paced. It's intense. It might make you cringe a little, but it never comes across the wrong way. They dig in deep and quickly to get to the funny part of an issue. That's the difference. If they understand one thing, it's that the show has to be jaw-droppingly hilarious before it ever makes a point or crosses a line. No matter what they're tackling, it's guaranteed with the finest of warranties to leave the audience literally breathless.
